US $7.50 · or best offer
Description
A large wall map reproducing the historic 1871 engraving titled "Bird's Eye View of the City of ATLANTA, The Capitol of Georgia… Looking North East." The original was drawn by A. Ruger, the post–Civil War cartographer known for his aerial "bird's eye" views of the great Eastern cities, among them Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia.
The view records Atlanta at a pivotal moment, the city reestablishing itself after the Civil War, with its streets, landmarks, and general layout carefully set down. The detailing extends to alphanumeric references to government buildings and schools, industrial buildings and churches, hunters and horse-drawn carriages in the streets, and Union Depot on Alabama Street downtown.
This is not an inkjet or digital reproduction. It is printed in black ink directly from an old metal lithographic offset plate, probably created in the 1980s, using the original lithograph engraving, true to the uncolored original. Printed on heavy parchment paper: sheet approximately 20½ x 17⅛ inches, image approximately 18⅜ x 13⅞ inches. Unframed and ready for framing; shipped rolled.
