Small hand-knotted Caucasian wool rug with an allover Herati pattern and multiple patterned borders.

Description

An early twentieth-century Caucasian rug from Azerbaijan, worked in the Herati design. The pile is lustrous wool over a cotton warp and weft foundation, the hand knotting tight and even throughout, the palette drawn from vegetable dyes.

It measures approximately 3' × 4'6" (91 × 137 cm), an elegant, decorative size well suited to a library or den, and equally at home hung as wall art.
