Ottoman Silk-Embroidered Linen Table Cover with Tughra Motifs

An Ottoman period Turkish table cover of fine hand-loomed linen, embroidered in silk thread and dated by the source to the early 20th century. It measures approximately 27 by 53 inches (69 x 135 cm).

The embroidery is worked on one side only, its ornament built from calligraphic motifs in the form of tughras. A good and characteristic example of Ottoman Turkish needlework, well suited to a collection of Islamic art.
