Engraved Korean Brass Tray, Dated 1952

A heavy engraved brass tray inscribed as a Christmas gift. The upper inscription reads "FOR MERRY CHRISTMAS" and "1952"; the lower reads "KOREA" and the name "KIM JONG SUK."

The center carries an engraved mountain landscape encircled by stars. The sharp vertical rock forms recall Oksunbong Peak, a subject long favored in traditional Korean painting for its towering cliffs and rugged outline.

The tray measures approximately 347 mm in diameter (about 13⅔ inches) and 30 mm high, weighing roughly 4 lb 12 oz (2.15 kg), a substantial piece with the weight of a commemorative object rather than a serving dish.
