Full-page plate: panoramic view of Wady Maghara, Sinai.

Description

An original part-issue of Picturesque Palestine, Sinai & Egypt, published by D. Appleton & Co. during the golden age of exploration literature. The sources give the date variously as 1882 and 1883, and the issue number as XXVIII.

The work is illustrated with engravings on steel and wood after original drawings by Harry Fenn and F. D. Woodward. This issue carries a full-page plate with a panoramic view of Wady Maghara, Sinai, along with finely detailed engravings of the South Country of Judea, including views of Ascalon, Beit Jibrin, Hebron, Sinai, and Judea.

Large-format softcover, the cover printed in blue ink on heavy matte India paper. The thick India wove pages carry the depth and clarity of the engravings well. Approximately 13 1/8 by 10¼ inches (33.3 x 26 cm), 24 pages.
