Description

The complete eight-volume set of the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, compiled by the Naval Historical Center, Department of the Navy, Washington, and issued by the United States Government Printing Office. All volumes are bound in red hardcover with gilt titles on the spines.

The dictionary is arranged by ship name and profusely illustrated with thousands of photographs and drawings. The volumes appeared as follows: I, 1959, ships A–B, 349 pages; II, 1963, C–F, 591 pages; III, 1968, G–K, 876 pages; IV, 1969, L–M, 745 pages; V, 1970, N–Q, 639 pages; VI, 1976, R–S, 751 pages; VII, 1981, T–V, 735 pages; VIII, 1991, W–Z, 577 pages.

Anyone who served aboard a United States Navy vessel of any kind up to 1981 will find their ship described here, frequently with images. The set includes many newspaper clippings inserted by a previous owner.

Condition

Very good, readable condition with tight bindings. Some shelf wear, rubbing to the edges, and minor exterior staining; age toning at the page ends, with all images crisp and clear. Newspaper clippings inserted by a previous owner are present.
