Large glazed porcelain plaque painted with two women in a Middle Eastern interior, one reclining and one seated, against patterned tilework with a metal tea set.
The painted Orientalist interior, signed and dated 1902.

Description

A large antique porcelain plaque signed by the artist Joe E. Heinz and dated 1902, measuring approximately 22 x 14.25 x 0.25 inches. The painted scene is an Orientalist interior: two women in a Middle Eastern setting, one reclining at center, the other seated on the floor and gazing outward, against a backdrop of patterned tiles and a traditional metal tea set.

The Orientalist manner was widely current in Europe through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The specific glazing or enameling method here is not certain; the smooth, glossy finish indicates fine overglaze painting or transfer printing, both common at the time. The image has been preserved beautifully for over a century.

Suitable for framing. Please note that the plaque requires special packing or crating.
