The complete four-volume set of Abraham Lincoln: The War Years by Carl Sandburg, published by Harcourt, Brace and Company in 1939, the first publication. The work follows Lincoln's life and the course of the Civil War from his inauguration in 1861 to his death in 1865, and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in History in 1940.
The volumes run 660, 655, 673, and 515 pages, and carry 426 half-tones of photographs together with 244 cuts of cartoons, letters, and documents, with index. Bound in gilt blue cloth, each measuring approximately 9½ × 6½ in (24.2 × 16.5 cm).

Condition
Very good, readable condition with tight bindings and owner's labels on the inside front covers. Some shelf wear, rubbing to the edges, and minor exterior staining; age toning at the page ends, with all images crisp and clear.
