Large Carved Wood Bowl, Tuareg

A generous carved wooden bowl from the Sahara, attributed to the Tuareg or a related Saharan nomadic culture. It is hollowed from a single piece of wood, with a deep, rounded profile and incised linear decoration around the exterior.

At roughly 19 inches (48 cm) across, it was made for communal use, shared dining, grain storage, or ritual purposes. Carved bowls of this type were central to daily life among the Tuareg, Fulani, Hausa, and other nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples of West and North Africa, produced with simple tools and often embellished with geometric carving and symbolic marks.

Height is approximately 8 inches (20 cm) and weight approximately 4 lb 7 oz (2 kg). The deep patina and wear indicate long use. Acquired from a private collection specializing in African tribal art.
