Description

A decorated silver zarf, from the Arabic for “vessel”, made to cradle the hot porcelain cup in which Turkish coffee is served. The form is found throughout the Middle East in a great range of styles and decorative treatments; this one dates to the late nineteenth century, Ottoman period Turkey.

It is unmarked, the silver of .800–.900 purity, and stands approximately 60 mm high with a weight of about 32 grams.
