US $155.00 · or best offer

Large circular brass plate inlaid with silver Arabic calligraphy and copper accents in concentric decorative bands.
The plate face, its calligraphic band inlaid in silver.

Description

A large brass plate, equally a tray, of heavy gauge, inlaid in silver and accented in copper. The silver inlay is executed as Arabic calligraphy, worked with the precision that distinguished the metalworking shops of Cairo, Damascus, and Jerusalem, where such pieces were traditionally made by Jewish and Christian artisans renowned for the craft.

The copper accents read warmly against the brass, and the whole holds the eye at both arm's length and close range. Diameter approximately 28.5 cm (11 1/4 inches).
