Bronze 1922 Pittsburgh Railways Co. transit token with a triangular cutout hole and worn lettering.
The 1922 Pittsburgh Railways token, its triangular cutout at center.

Description

A bronze fare token issued by the Pittsburgh Railways Co. of Pennsylvania in 1922, good for one zone fare on the city's trolley lines. The reverse reads GOOD FOR ONE ZONE FARE around the numeral 3, with a cutout triangular hole at the center, the device that let a conductor sort fares by touch.

This example carries a strike error: the letters across the lower portion and the date are crushed, an accident of the press preserved in the metal. The detail photograph marks the affected area with blue arrows.

No mint mark. Collectors are invited to study the high-resolution images and judge the grade for themselves.
