Three Hand-Painted Porcelain Wall Switch Plates

Three matching porcelain wall switch plates, hand painted in polychrome with a floral design and finished with gold trim. They date to the mid-twentieth century, Japan, around the 1950s.

The plates are marked Anart, #7310. The back of one carries two crossed arrows with three feathers above a four-digit number, a mark generally indicating production for Arnart Imports of New York. Cut to standard U.S. sizes, they are decorative in a way that ordinary hardware never is.
