Large Hand-Engraved Moroccan Brass Tray, Fez
Hand-engraved brass tray · Fez, Morocco · mid-20th century
US $260.00 · or best offer
Description
A large vintage brass tray from Fez, dating to the mid-twentieth century, worked entirely by hand. The heavy sheet is engraved across its full surface with interlocking geometric fields, floral scrollwork, and bands of pseudo-Arabic calligraphy, a traditional form carried out by artisans long renowned for their skill in metalwork.
It is a substantial object, roughly 68 cm (27 inches) across and weighing about twelve pounds. At that scale it reads equally well as a serving tray, a low table top, or a wall-mounted disc where the engraving can catch raking light.
