Medieval Bronze Ring with Figural Beast-and-Arrow Motif

A patinated bronze ring of the twelfth to fourteenth century, from the region running from Anatolia into the Levant. The table carries an unusual figural design: an arrow slaying a beast, carved into the flat face of the ring.

Figural work of this kind is what distinguishes the piece. Carved bronze rings bearing figurative subjects are exceedingly scarce on the antique market, and examples in sound condition combining both the subject and the period seldom surface.

The ring weighs approximately 9.9 grams, with a table of about 12 mm square and an inner diameter of about 23 mm.
