Description
An original hand-colored lithograph after David Roberts, from the Egyptian SE folios of his publication Egypt and Nubia, printed on heavy matte india paper. The imprint reads: "London, Published by F.G. Moon, 20 Threadneedle St. May 1st, 1847."
The plate shows the approach along the Nile to the temple at Wady Saboua, dedicated by Ramses II (1279–1213 BC) to Amon Ra and Ra Harmakis. The site now lies beneath the waters of Lake Nasser; part of the temple was moved above the reservoir behind the Aswan High Dam, and many of the statues Roberts recorded are lost.
Folio size approximately 16 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches (42 x 60 cm); image approximately 10 x 13 3/4 inches (25 x 35 cm). Suitable for framing.
