Description

A Voigtländer Avus folding press camera for 9 x 12 cm plates, produced between 1928 and 1929 in Braunschweig by Voigtländer & Sohn AG, a firm founded in 1756 and among the oldest camera manufacturers in the world. Body serial number 129329.

The lens is a Voigtländer Anastigmat Skopar f/4.5, 13.5 cm, a four-element design introduced in the early 1900s and long admired for sharpness. Aperture range f/4.5 to f/25. The Compur shutter, a staple of professional cameras of the period, runs 1 to 1/200 second with Z, D, M, B, and T settings.

The Avus series was aimed at press photographers who needed a durable camera for fieldwork; the 9 x 12 cm negative gave the detail their prints required. Please note that the filters shown in some images are no longer available.

Condition

Very good condition for its age, showing minimal wear. The lens is clear, with no visible scratches, dust, or fungus; the f-stop does not open below f/9. All shutter functions appear to work, though speeds have not been professionally tested.
